About Us |
The Virgin Islands Taekwondo Federation came into existence in 1981 after the relentless passion and consistent efforts of the Mitchell Brothers materialized. Master Richard Mitchell was the first instructor who began teaching Taekwondo as an art, in place of Kung Fu that was being taught earlier. Many individuals caught onto his passion for and endless knowledge of Taekwondo, so much that presently, there are atleast nine Taekwondo & Martial Arts schools across the Virgin Islands. All schools have originated from Master Mitchell’s school.
After Master Mitchell retired as President of the VI Taekwondo Federation, Roy Washington from St. Thomas took over the task of developing the Federation. In 1987, Master Washington’s student, Robert Folner won a silver medal for the Federation!
The VI Taekwondo Federation has been very active throughout its existence over the years; traveling to different islands in the Caribbean and even taking its teams to participate in the Pan Am Games and other international tournaments. |
